Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA)

You are aware of Canada's involvement in Libya. There's moves being made that could see Syria dealt with in the same way. That the American "Occupy" movement is well underway there and mad may spread to Canada you probably know.

What do you know about what's conjectured will be in CETA  when it is revealed to us as a "fait accompli" ?  Probably not enough for the changes it will bring about - if conjecture plays out.

Take the time you would normally spend on the Digest over the next several days to inform yourself about it through what the google link above leads you to. And if you end up with the same reaction Susan Price did, take the same action in your municipality.

You'll have the time I'm unsure of producing the Digest over the next several days.

Subject: Help me educate the public and the public sector about CETA

To each of you receiving,
While my frustrations with CETA will become evident when you read the attached presentation that I made to the City of Brantford's councilors this summer; I wish to stress that lack of public debate and the restrictions being imposed on future legislation are my primary concerns.  Since none of the actual text or negotiation details has been disclosed to any governmental level or the public, one can only speculate what will or will not be included in the soon coming agreement.
In addition to the information that I highlighted in my presentation, which related solely to the effect of CETA on municipalities (and provinces/federal governments) and all their public sector organizations, I also have GRAVE concerns about the additional powers being given to GMO's, (Monsanto etc).  I am vehemently opposed to genetically modified foods; as I see as allowing corporate control of our food supply, despite the growing body of evidence of the harm/sickness they inflict on people, land and animals.  I believe that since 'growth' can not continue, corporations are moving to controlling the basic necessities (eliminating the competition, means eliminating natural foods and citizens right to grow their own).  If I understand correctly CETA will additionally allow companies like Monsanto to seize farmers assets (their family home/land) if they are found to have GMO growing on their land without purchasing (even if caused by unintended/unwanted cross contamination).  These land grabs can NOT be allowed to happen.
I don't pretend to know all the answers, but public debate would be a welcomed starting point to allow all things to be considered…

Please help facilitate that discussion and ensure PEOPLE's not CORPORATIONS's best interests are paramount…
Ps – Note that my city council amended their original resolution to add my suggested wording, and it was passed.

Hi Joe,  Since Robert raise Hayek.  here are three videos on a site called Econ Stories.
1. "In Fear the Boom and Bust, John Maynard Keynes and F. A. Hayek, two of the great economists of the 20th century, come back to life to attend an economics conference on the economic crisis. Before the conference begins, and at the insistence of Lord Keynes, they go out for a night on the town and sing about why there's a "boom and bust" cycle in modern economies and good reason to fear it."
2. "On October 25th, an audience of financial managers and CEOs, politicians, central bankers and Nobel Prize-winning economists at The Economist's Buttonwood Gathering were treated to an unusual experience: a live rap battle between John Maynard Keynes and F. A. Hayek."
3. "According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, the Great Recession ended almost two years ago, in the summer of 2009. But we're all uneasy. Job growth has been disappointing. The recovery seems fragile. Where should we head from here? Is that question even meaningful? Can the government steer the economy or have past attempts helped create the mess we're still in? John Maynard Keynes and F. A. Hayek never agreed on the answers to these questions and they still don't. Let's listen to the greats. See Keynes and Hayek throwing down in "Fight of the Century."
The videos, will add to a deeper understanding of the current economic troubles, and becomes fans of Hayek. After all, the Occupy protests or the 99 percenters are voicing what Hayek has warned and solutions that are of Hayek's economics. After all, Keynes economics and clones like it, makes the 99 % of the people pay dearly for the free wheeling policies of the 1 percenters, whose only interest is to obtain more wealth, no matter what.
To the point, where people are no longer seen as human beings, but what value they can add to make the 1 percenters even richer. A fine example is in Ray's post. I took the time to dig out the picture, and yes Ray, he probably did go to Hell............   http://www.adbusters.org/campaigns
Scroll down to the bottom of the page, first issue, the latest edition #98.  And the person who won a Pulitzer prize, had no idea what happen to the child. Guilt, some would say, but I would say along with many others, that the current economic systems, government policies, and the callousness of the one percenters, work on three principals, guilt, fear and every man for himself among the 99 percenters. Rather amusing, to see the 1 percenters portraying themselves as the victims, much like spoil children who become bullies to serve their own best interests in remaining at the top of the social rankings.  " As Singer-funded journalists make their best effort to diminish the Occupy Wall Street protesters as confused idiots unable to articulate a clear goal, it so happens that these journalists are funded by a man who epitomizes the crony capitalist behavior of the greedy one percent."  http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article29354.htm
Or the latest from Fox, "Fox News' "Cost of Freedom" show, Bulls and Bears, managed to make Marie Antoinette look like a humanitarian yesterday (10/8/11) as first the panelists talked up the benefits of ruthless capitalism and then another panelist complained, "In America, people are not hungry anymore because the government is subsidizing them… that's the problem."   http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article29357.htm
"Republican economic guru Paul Ryan dolefully declared, "Class warfare may make for good politics, but it makes for rotten economics. We don't need a system that seeks to divide people. We don't need a system that seeks to prey on people's fear, envy, and anxiety"
At the end of the article, " Is this a class war? Yes, probably. And it's one of those really long wars, the kind that goes on forever. But in this latest battle, there's little doubt who fired the first shot. When the financial crisis hit, the Masters of the Universe evaded responsibility and defiantly demanded more sacrifice from their victims. They enlisted their favoured politicians to hold the people hostage and then complained about being unloved despite their crimes. They have won all the early skirmishes - but the people are gathering their forces and starting to fight back.

"The top 1 per cent have the best houses, the best educations, the best doctors, and the best lifestyles, but there is one thing that money doesn't seem to have bought: an understanding that their fate is bound up with how the other 99 per cent live Throughout history, this is something that the top 1 per cent eventually do learn. Too Late."

Joseph Stiglitz"

So very true, where a elderly couple is moving to Ontario, to access health care services that they can no longer received in their province. Where health care, like education is rationed and dole out according to class, where learning to read well depends on where an individual lands on the Social/Economic rankings, and having savings in the bank for a rainy day, is more of a crime and a threat to the one percenters than the crimes of the one percenters, rigging the markets, to ensure each and every one of the 99 percenters pays the highest retail price, for poor quality goods and services. An economic system based on Hayek principals, is the greatest threat to the one percenters, because its main premise is based on human behaviour, providing checks and balances on the top 5 percenters, governments who strive for the old days of kings and queens, and the serfs to serve and work for the needs of the top 5 percenters.

Subject:  'response' of PM office

This is an 'answer'?  All it states is that they got your letter--and if you want to be set straight go to the PMs web site to find out what you are supposed to think.  Harper will obey the dictates of the USA and will NOT question 9/11.  He will do what he is told.  Loss of life means nothing to the 'peacekeepers'.  Take a look at Libya.

Subject: voting

Reading the comments about voting, have been a scrutineer at many elections and the problem
is always the same incomplete voters lists. The problem is larger than people know. Canada as a
Nation has no clue who are living in this country and were. There is no mandatory time period that
people have the obligation to report where they are or moved to within a certain time period. Neither
do the provinces or the municipalities know. This failure has deeper problems, for argument sake
starting with collecting taxation for what ever reason. With the rising population many families moving
into one home and expect all the services, from schools  to medical, to quote the two most major.
This problem has been rising faster than we know and there are no efforts to change it as it may
offend some. Time for mandatory registration is long overdue. B,C,presently started  a volunteer ID
card and drivers licence system, what will that do "nothing", only you can cross the USA border
without a passport. It takes a about 20 minutes of questioning, picture taking but no finger prints.

Subject: Why is CdnPensionPlan buying USA 99cent stores($1.6B)... While China buys CDN oil producer($2.2B)?

Dear Ed.,
It makes no sense to me for our Canada Pension Plan Investment Board to be buying an American dollar store chain while China's national oil co. is buying a Canadian oil and gas firm.
From today's news on BNN
CPPIB buys "99 Cents" for $1.6B

"Daylight" says to be bought by China's Sinopec

I agree. Do you?

re; The Peoples Order of B.C.
You might want to give the Order of B. C. to Rick George, CEO of Suncor, who got the Order of Canada around the time that he claimed that Suncor, of Philadelphia, was a 'Canadian' company so that the buy-out of Petro-can could be called a partnership. He is now selling off Petro-Can assets, in this case, natural gas to entities such as Direct Energy, aka Energy America,  and other assets as well.  I believe his actions have been a net benefit to Canada and Canadians as they show us, the lack of ethics, the scamming ability of current corporate entities, if they are not regulated, and in most cases they aren't, since they can spread the word that 'Don't worry, some-one ELSE is regulating that. It called SEP, some-one else's problem.
Then, you could consider John Manley, head of the Council of Chief Executives, to go with his impending charge of treason for turning Canada over to the corporate world, again for his ability to teach Canadians about, 'When Corporations Rule the World. Manley is the one working to set up an ENERGY PLAN  FOR CANADA!!!
Beauty eh? Scam-wise?
