Marketing freedom is risky business

A Farmer's view on the proposed Government action

The Petition that may, just may, lead to democracy prevailing over ideology
CWB Petition - It's the Farmers' Decision

Let farmers decide:

Section 47.1 of the Canadian Wheat Board Act guarantees farmers the right to vote on changes to the CWB's marketing structure. Polls show that three out of four farmers want to decide the future of their grain-marketing organization. Despite this, the federal government has stated it plans to remove the single desk on wheat and barley by August 1, 2012, without a vote by farmers.

Farmers pay for the CWB, farmers run it, farmers should decide its future. Show your support for farmers' right to decide by adding your name to the online petition below.

There may be those choosing to comment one way or t'other - hopefully mine will be tomorrow

your correspondent MAHMOOD ELAHI  sees first past the post as a "contrived" majority. proponents of any one of the dozens of varieties of proportioanal representation all believe that any one of their varieties would be better for us that the FPTP option. The nice thing about Canadian democracy is that proponents of  proportioning are always free to offer one of their variants to the public. last time this happened, in Ontario, 63% of the entire voting population opted for the status quo!
but the proportionists are never through so expect more calls for some usually complicated variant of their first love! cz

Hi Joe, Worth repeating today's DD quote - "Everything is Backwards" -
That's what Thomas Jefferson meant when he said "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance."
and "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them."
Our freedoms is tied in with an economic/political systems that is very dependent on governments as well as the global/nationalist corporations to waste the labours of the people. People are prevented by the many rules and regulations to exercised their freedoms, by imposing harsh criteria to exercised their freedoms. For example income splitting in the post of   Beverley Smith, is a very fine example of government controlling and maintaining the bulk of the population to pay consistently a much higher percentage of income taxes, and in doing so, people are forced to do things that are against their own best interests. Harsh choices are made where the likelihood of the individual citizen will labour for the best interests of  government, the guy that they work for, and other special interests that has no real concern for the individual's welfare. The unfair tax system found in most democracies, if not all of them controls and manipulates the ability of people to look after their own best interests first, before considering other interests such as government or providing labour for their boss. Governments, nor the big corporations and other special interests want ordinary people to look after their needs first, and not the best interests of the ordinary people.
" Those without a lot of wealth or a lot of power are getting absolutely killed in America today.  The big corporations, the major financial institutions, the ultra-wealthy and those connected to the top levels of government are absolutely thriving even though the economy overall is in shambles.  Meanwhile, "the little guy" is being abused, harassed, regulated, taxed and mistreated like never before.  In general, the big corporations and the government don't spend a lot of time tangling with each other.  Instead, mostly they seem content with attacking the weak members of the herd (the rest of us).  In the United States today, wealth and power have become more concentrated than ever, and the big corporations and the government have figured out thousands of different ways to drain even more wealth and power away from the rest of us.  Most of the time, "the little guy" is not even able to fight back.  Most Americans have very limited resources and a very limited knowledge of the law.  Meanwhile, the "big guys" have almost unlimited resources and can hire huge numbers of lawyers.  So what does that mean for the rest of us?  Well, it means that until society becomes a lot more just, you better do your best to keep from becoming a target of the "big guys"."

The following are 15 examples of how "the little guy" is getting absolutely killed in America today....
My question, is how can the little guy can work for their own best interests, when much is dependent on the actions of the big guys, and as a result, the little guys have limited options, and more often than not work against their own best interests and welfare.

Do any of the 15 apply in Canada? (Been too busy to read them yet)

Subject: [On-Guard] Immigration Survey: Please take part

This is mind numbing.  I filled it out but couldn't answer the way I wanted to

 Received and passed on.
THIS IS A GOVERNMENT OF CANADA SURVEY.  Please note that this survey is ANONYMOUS.  You are not required to give your name or email address.
To everyone who is interested in immigration issues and the level of immigrant acceptance we should look for here in Canada, and that really should be everyone, please go to this link and fill out the survey (ends on Sept. 17):

We are not often asked to give our opinion on anything by our governments.  When we are it is most important that we do; the gov't MUST know that we are watching and that we care a great deal about important governance issues. When we are asked to take part in a survey on an issue such as Immigration that is so vital to our economic and social health we need to take the time to do so.

This survey will take a half hour of your time but it is well worthwhile if it helps change existing gov't policy on the level of immigration that we allow into Canada.  Did you know that per capita Canada accepts more immigrants than any other country in the world and, particularly immigrants from Islamic countries in the Middle East and Africa?

*****Please pay attention to the third set of numerical questions:  it goes in the opposite direction from the first 2.  The first 2 go in order of your preference from 1, 2, 3, etc.  The third set goes in order of your preference, but from 6, 5, 4, etc.

DO NOT try to go back a page unless there's a key in the bottom left corner that says "Back".  Use only that key to go back.  If it's not there, you can't go back!

I'm sure you have your own views on Canadian immigration but here are some of the things I said:

Immigrants from Western countries such as Britain, Australia, Europe and the USA offer Canadians the best chance for a successful future for Canada because of their levels of health as well as language and work skills.  Many people today are frightened by the immigrants being allowed into Canada and with good reason.  Seldom do we hear English being spoken.  The immigrants allowed into Canada over the past 30 years do not reflect the once-successful Canadian mosaic.   Bring in a high level of immigrant from ONLY Western countries - people who speak English, are healthy, and live by the same standards and laws as we do - and our economic problems will take care of themselves.  Canadians would be much happier, as well as feel and BE safer with those immigrants than with people from countries that support terrorism or lack a lifestyle and laws similar to those under which we live.
There should be serious repercussions for immigrants who are found evading taxes with immediate deportation of the offender and his or her family being the penalty.  Every immigrant should be required to have a job and paying taxes from the day after he arrives in Canada.  Immigrants should be required to pay $5,000 per family member before being allowed to access health care, or pay for it themselves until they've paid taxes for 3 years.
Reject all immigrants from countries that are linked to terrorism in any way - Pakistan, Somalia, the Middle East and others.
We should not accept elderly - OR ANY - immigrants unless and until they have passed a detailed health examination.  Diseases we had eradicated, such as TB, are back because this was not done.  Elderly immigrants must prove they have the resources to support themselves once they arrive; their dependents often refuse to take responsiblity for them once they're here, knowing Canadians will pay their expenses.
Canadians are tired of having boats floating up to our shores and seeing the people in welcomed then admitted to hospitals before Canadians who have paid for health care and waited in line, sometimes for years, to get care.  This causes resentment and hatred of all immigrants and must be stopped.

Joe--In other words just shut up and pay your MPAC elevated property taxes??? The government knows best???  I read an article that was printed in the Southam Star in April 1994.  A farmer there was losing lambs due to the Bruce Nuclear Plant.  He was born and raised in the area and he and his family began to suffer every time the plant emits gas.  But no one listens.
I have the newspaper clipping from the 1994 story but can't find it on line.  This is an article I found about how the McGuinty government protects the health of the people of Ontario

As long as corporations are getting richer we are of no concern.  Democracy, you gotta love it???

Subject: American and International press on Libya--DD

Also Tuesday, Canada, which has played a major role in the NATO-led air campaign against Al Qathafi's military forces, said it will reopen its embassy in the Libyan capital.

Foreign Minister John Baird said a small team of diplomats arrived in Tripoli last weekend to conduct a security assessment and that Canada will establish a temporary embassy while the old one is renovated.

Baird added that Canada will resume trade with Libya and that it has secured an exemption with the United Nations to unfreeze more than $2 billion in assets for humanitarian aid in Libya.

Two major Canadian firms, the oil company Suncor and the engineering giant SNC Lavalin, have significant operations in Libya.

Now at least we know why Canada is bombing Libya--for the oil corporations and the money.  If this money is used for 'humanitarian aid' like our bombing has been for 'humanitarian reasons' God help the Libyans.  Canada gets it's filthy hands on $2B and there will not be any Libyans left to spend it on.

YES--the boots on the ground in the Black Bloc we police issue boots!!!!!

Joe--re the message posted by Henry Atkinson--this is exactly what our 'leaders' want.  This gives them the excuse to clamp down on us even more.  (9/11 was also used for that.)  The governments need fear to control us and this type of incident is exactly what they want.  Perhaps they even instigated it?

You're not suggesting there were plants in the Black Bloc at the G20 affair now are you?

Joe--don't blame the horny MP, blame the Chinese?  What a load.  This idiot acted like a jerk but we have to be careful because the Chinese might be using this woman to mess up Canada?  With politicians like this we don't need anyone else 'screwing' us up--our politicians do that on their own.becky
