Two LAW and ORDER concerns
to me though clearly not to those in office.

Editorial: How can cops not know who this is?

Getting tough on crime update: outlawing the hyperlink
But, really, the notion that someone could reasonably be expected to know that content on another website, to which they have pointed in a hyperlink, is completely now and in the future free of defamatory or hateful material is absurd.

One could imagine such a law easily leading to witch hunts masquerading as perfectly legal investigations against both unlucky and specifically targeted defendants.

Subject: a new global organization committed to plurality and ethics in the economics profession

Today marks the launch of a new global organization committed to plurality and ethics in the economics profession, the World Economics Association.

The six initiators of the Association include Edward Fullbrook who has been running the Real World Economics network (formerly the "Post-Autistic Economics" newsletter) for a few years.  The group has invited 141 economists from around the world to serve as "founding" members (including Jim Stanford and Marc Lavoie from Canada).

The WEA plans to publish 3 journals (two more in addition to the Real World Economics Review), and is now soliciting mass memberships from all interested individuals.  Membership is free; sign up for the WEA here.

Joe:

Regarding Eisenhower's prisoner of war camps, I believe it was either the Atlantic Monthly or the Saturday Night magazine that ran a feature article on this several years ago. I recall reading it at the time.

I've never seen any other corroborating material. But then, the victors always get to write the histories of their times.

Subject: 1) 2) 3) -"overwhelming ardour of the Cdn body politic" +"bulwark against the clamour and caprice of the mob"

J,

1)  I am not (as yet, sigh) enjoying the type of political passion that the first part of my subject line might suggest

Quel surprise!

Patience is still a virtue and I remain committed  "to protect the regional interests and also (to be) a power of resistance to oppose the (social-)democratic element"

--see other quotes below ----30----

2) NB this link takes anyone interested to the Order In Council (at bottom of page)

This is full letter with all links

3) Personal aside - I'm running to be one of the 4 regional (non-brokerage owning) Directors of the Toronto Real Estate Board
total of 18 Directors - Vote is June 10  - 150 word .jpg bio att

Robert Ede,

other pertinent (& ignored) stuff re The Senate of Canada

G.E. Cartier  -"to protect the regional interests and also a power of resistance to oppose the democratic element"

Sir James Lougheed - a "bulwark against the clamour and caprice of the mob"

Cicero (carved in oak frieze of Senate Speaker's chambers) - "It is the duty of the nobles to oppose the fickleness of the multitude"

Alan MacEachen -"It is not only desirable but necessary for the Senate to act as somewhat of a check on the government" (ed.note: and it's the fundamental PURPOSE of the place ... you bonehead)
