Am so surprised that we keep reading what the Bloc Quebecois wants and what Duceppe says
                                                                     “who cares”
there is noting that the Rest Of Canada can do unless it includes a large cheque, they keep whining.

We waste so much time to pay attention to Quebec, the Harper State. Harper could crown Charest
King of Quebec and nothing will change. The day that Ottawa does close the wallet and say this is
the end unless, and than set the requirements to equalize, including funding from Quebec Hydro to
start with.It is unfortunate that Central Canada does not understand this, the media and politicians.
Including Ontario born Le Harper.

Subject: Conservative campaign relies on false beliefs
From: Mary-Sue Haliburton

While doing a poll drop I chanced to encounter a man with a John Baird lawn sign and some rather limited thinking that he appears to have imbibed wholus bolus from conservative attack ads.

1. He believed that Toronto police were responsible for security at the G20 and thus what happened had nothing to do with the federal government! Pointing out that the Harper cabinet was in charge went in one ear and out the other. He was simply unable to recognize that it was the Harper government that spent the billion dollars, and that only the federal government is responsible for security of foreign heads of state. So, obviously, the federal security administration {obviously} has to answer for that debacle. This guy didn't give a damn about what happened to anyone there -- said it was just a Toronto matter. Duh.

2. He believed that Ignatieff is too American and Harper is more Canadian. What a joke. I pointed out that people don't call Wayne Gretsky an American for going off to work in the states. The guy claimed that was "different" but could not explain how. I said it's the same. Just because someone takes a job outside Canada doesn't make him less Canadian. But this shows how the attack ads find a home in a malleable and wilfully ignorant brain. (Attack ads should have been countered with an immediate defamation lawsuit against this conservative party.)

3. He believed absolutely that Liberals would raise taxes and only Conservatives would keep them down. He was not able at all to think about the unknown and unannounced costs of mega-prisons, fancy high-tech aircraft, not to mention the corporate tax cuts. Who will pay for all that? Duh. With this entrenched ignorance, I figured there wasn't much point in saying that privatization of medicare may keep taxes down but will raise expenses for every citizen who will then have to pay premiums for some kind of health insurance -- if you can even get it. A lot of people won't be eligible for any type of group rates.

There's an uphill climb to get these nuts cracked open to realize how much they've been lied to. I hope that the leaders' debate will make a difference, but am wondering how a breakthrough can be made. Last time, the Cons got all concerned that everyone was ganging up on Harper. So, I hope the Liberal leader will show some passion for canadian democratic rights and freedoms.

The Cons can't have both mega-prisons and an open society, much as they might pretend otherwise.
