If Afghanistan is going to become a war of ever increasing troop count, then Canada should have no part of it. We need to learn from history.

I was going to go on what some would undoubtedly consider to be a rant related to the heading above.

Claudia spared you that for the time being.

Without going into detail the Canadian flag below (if it comes through to you), set as it is with scudding clouds between words relating to Canada's future
had an emotional impact upon me.

On Dominion Day a neighbour of mine and I for many years flew the Red Ensign. It was "D" Day, Defiance Day.

I hope the image comes through and has the same effect on you.

Dear Joe: Another hint from me.  There can be no more important topic, or more under-reported "elephant in the room" than  Cameron Smith's regular column in the Saturday Toronto Star on January 26:  Perfect storm on the global horizon.  I'd love to see this carried in the Daily Digest.  I note that a sequel, to be watched for, will be published next Saturday, February 2.  It may be of equal importance to be disseminated.  Thanks again for helping to keep many of us up-to-date.  Ross Bateman

Joe--Christine sent this to me.  Isn't it interesting that they keep raising costs because we are so wasteful?  And yet here they admit that we are conserving.  We are always told we are the bad guy and have to be controlled for our own good.  Now in an unguarded moment the truth comes out.  No matter how much we conserve, and therefore demand less of the utility involved, we cannot win--we are 'bad' no matter what we do, and need Big Brother government to spank us with higher rates.  We are always told that we are not doing enough--and now we know who is really not doing enough.
